DAY 1

For customers booking our rail inclusive package, we travel by train through Scotland and climb high into the mountains along the glorious Highland Line through Stirling, Perth and Aviemore to the city of Inverness where we board our onward connection to Beauly. We then transfer to our hotel for three nights, The Priory, located in the heart of Beauly.

DAY 2

Our private coach journey North takes us along the stunning coastal route where we recommend keeping your eyes peeled for seals lounging on the rocks. We break up the journey with a stop off at the fascinating Timespan museum in Helmsdale, telling the history of the Highlands over the centuries. We continue to the most northerly point of Britain, John O' Groats, where there is freetime for souvenir photos and lunch. Our coach then takes us to Wick where we have a local distillery tour at Old Pulteney distillery before boarding the afternoon train south along the Far North line travelling initially to Thurso before reversing and travelling through the wild and remote moorlands of Caithness, the last wilderness in Europe where enthusiasts still pan for gold, then along the beautiful coastline at Brora to Muir of Ord for the short coach transfer back to our hotel.

DAY 3

A highlight of your Railtrail holiday - travelling by train on one of the world's finest coast to coast railway adventures to the Kyle of Lochalsh, immortalised in Sir Michael Palin's original "Great Railway Journeys of the World" TV series. We travel by coach to Inverness and board the train there so we travel along the whole of this spectacularly scenic line. As the train nears its destination, you are rewarded with dream-like vistas across the loch to the Cullin Hills on the Isle of Skye. Upon arrival into Lochalsh, we make our way to the Lochalsh Hotel for a light lunch, taking in the views, before making the return journey.

As the train clings to the rocky shoreline you are rewarded with dream-like vistas across this mighty sea loch to the skyline of the dark Cuillin Hills, majestically dominant on the Isle of Skye, before we slowly draw into Kyle of Lochalsh, our journey's end. Here we take refreshments at the Lochalsh Hotel, with time to relax and view 'across the water' to Skye - a view described by Michael Palin as 'one of the great breakfast table views of the world'.
