Travel independently to Palma on the island of Majorca in time to join our tour, staying at the 4-star UR Palacio Avenida Hotel, a convenient base for our 5-night adventure. This evening we will enjoy a welcome meeting together before free time to explore the many restaurants and bars this Mediterranean capital has to offer.
Today we meet with our local guide and travel to the Northeastern tip of the island to Majorca's second largest town of Manacor, the birthplace of the famous tennis player Rafael Nadal. In 1879 the railway between Manacor and Inca was opened, helping to establish the town and its flourishing pearl industry. Mallorcan pearls are sold the world over and the local factory shop is sure to tempt you. We have plenty of time to explore this beautiful town before retracing our steps to Palma for an evening at leisure.B
After breakfast today we meet with our local guide and enjoy a truly vintage day aboard "The Orange Express". The Palma to Sóller train is a vintage narrow-gauge train and is also known affectionately as the wooden train due to its wooden carriages. This railway is over one hundred years old and has been in service since 1912. While it's not the fastest way of getting from Palma to Sóller, a journey on this beautiful train along the extremely scenic route is a totally unique experience. On arrival into Soller there will be time to explore before boarding the vintage tram for the onward journey to Port de Sóller. The tram has been in operation since 1913 and offers a nostalgic journey back in time. We spend a little time exploring the picturesque little village before making the return journey via the tram and vintage train to Palma where the evening is at leisure to enjoy the myriad of local restaurants.B
Today we rejoin our guide and private coach for an enchanting day to the Mallorcan town of Pollença. This ancient town boasts stunning blonde stone architecture and is not on the usual tourist trail. Café life rules here so soak up the local atmosphere and watch the world go by. The town is rich in history, and we will have plenty of time to explore, visiting the ancient Roman bridge or the 18th-century Mare de Déu dels Àngels church with its beautiful rose window. Other historic buildings include the former Jesuit convent, which is now the town hall, and from here we can enter the Calvari church with its ancient wooden cross, climb the 365 steps (one for each day of the year) lined with Cypress trees, and marvel at the fantastic views of Pollença Bay from the top. We will continue to Pollença Bay, a large horseshoe bay with stunning sea views and mountain backdrops. After spending some time relaxing, we will retrace our steps to Palma for an evening at leisure.B
This morning, after breakfast, we embark on a journey to Majorca's third largest town Inca best known as "the city of leather". The town has a long rich history and boasts some beautiful architecture. We will be visiting on the popular Thursday market day which is the largest on the island and boasts many stalls selling leather, jewellery, carved olive wood, and lots of fresh produce. There are many cafés to choose from around the main square along with many of the old wine cellars which have been lovingly converted into restaurants, harking back to the towns wine making history. After lunch we continue by train to rural Sa Pobla where our guide will show us an area that is off the usual tourist trail and, after exploring, we return to Palma by train.B
Today we bid farewell to Palma and our newfound friends after breakfast and travel homeward independently.B
