DAY 1
Arrive at Inverness and take one of our pre-arranged private taxis to our hotel for four nights, the Kingsmills Hotel. Tonight, we enjoy our first evening meal together.
DDAY 2
Today we enjoy a full day tour. After breakfast we join our private coach and travel to Dochgarroch Lock to join our cruise departing along the Caledonian canal and into Loch Ness, we cross the Loch to Urquhart castle where we disembark and have time to explore the castle and visitor centre. We rejoin our private coach and travel to Invermoriston for a photo stop at the bridge and Columbus Well, then onto Fort Augustus for a short visit. Afterwards we journey back to Inverness stopping at Falls of Foyers, a waterfall frequented by Robbie Burns the poet before continuing to Dores to see the beach and spend a short time enjoying the beautiful surroundings before completing the journey back to Inverness to arrive in time for our evening meal together.
B, DDAY 3
After breakfast we will take pre-ordered taxis to the station to board our Scotrail service to the Kyle of Lochalsh. This journey is considered to be one of the "Great Railway Journeys of the World". Follow in Michael Palins' footsteps crossing the Highlands coast to coast passing majestic mountains, forests, and stunning Lochs. Fill your camera with breathtaking views and marvel at the spectacular scenery before bursting out onto the coast on the final run into Kyle of Lochalsh with its views out of Skye, the gateway to the Western Isles. On arrival we will have a short amount of free time before enjoying lunch together at a local restaurant. We will then retrace our steps to Inverness and transfer back to the Kingsmills for our evening meal together.
B, L, DDAY 4
Today we have time at leisure to explore Inverness, why not take a wander up to the stunning castle viewpoint for a fantastic view of the city and the highlands beyond. Other options include the Cathedral, Museum & Art Gallery and not to be missed is Leakey’s Bookshop, the largest secondhand bookshop in Scotland with its own log fire and almost any book you can think of, it’s a wonderful, quiet little getaway. You can also make use of the hotel's beautiful Leisure & Spa facilities or, for the more energetic, book a round of golf on the hotel's own course. Dinner is at own arrangement today and we will reconvene at the hotel for our evening of whisky tasting, music and storytelling with the Highland Malt Whisky Experience. We will be hosted on our journey through some of the best malt whiskies in the Adams room at the Kingsmills with a roaring log fire backdrop. This room is where Robbie Burns enjoyed dinner in the 18th Century and his letter of thanks is still on display, a warm and wonderful way to bring our tour of the Highlands to a close.
BDAY 5
This morning our hotel in Inverness bids "haste ye back" as we make our way home. Private pre-arranged taxis will take us back to the station this morning after breakfast.
