DAY 1
Customers booking our rail inclusive package travel by train to Newcastle and transfer the short distance to the Copthorne Hotel. In the afternoon we can take a stroll along the Tyne to view Newcastle's famous bridges and the great the mix of traditional and modern architecture dotted along the banks.
DDAY 2
Today, we visit Beamish, The Living Museum of the North, an incredible experience through time. A living, working experience featuring a recreated town including an Edwardian bakery, a coal mine, a local pub, and school amongst other things, all linked together by a historic tram system. On our return to Newcastle, we make a visit to The Angel of the North for a quick photo-stop.
B, DDAY 3
Heading inland today, we travel alongside Hadrian’s Wall to Vindolanda, one of Europe’s most important Roman archaeological sites. As well as having the chance to view thousands of extraordinary Roman artefacts, we also get to watch live excavations. From here, we are transported to the South Tynedale Railway for a steam** journey through the stunning North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on England’s highest narrow-gauge railway.
B, DDAY 4
Leaving Newcastle, today we travel north to Bamburgh for a visit to Bamburgh Castle – once home to the Kings of Northumbria. Standing proudly on the edge of the North Sea, the castle has lots to explore from over 1,400 years of history. Our private coach then transfers us to Seahouses where we board our boat for a 90-minute trip towards the Farne Islands, to view the stunning wildlife on one of the UK’s largest seabird and seal colonies. In the afternoon we travel to Heatherslaw Light Railway for a return steam** journey along the banks of the river Till.
B, DDAY 5
After breakfast it's time to bid farewell to Newcastle and return by train to homeward destinations.
**We reserve the right to travel by heritage diesel train should the steam locomotive not be available / timetabled at the time of our visit.
